Young Adult LIFE

Young Adult LIFE (YAL) fosters responsible citizenship by encouraging imagination, inquiry and dialogue; confidence through respect and success; and the development of tomorrow’s leaders; in the midst of spiritual guidance.

Each year, thousands of teens and young adults, ages 18 to 21, age out of the foster care system. For the first time, many of these young people will live on their own without a foster family. They, and many of their peers in the community, are faced with finding places to live. They will have to seek/get employment, continue their education, manage their money, and for some, provide for a family, as well.

Young Adult LIFE seeks to help young adults from all circumstances. Young Adult LIFE is a partnership with local government, individuals, private donors and Lutheran Social Services of New York. This partnership was formed to help foster care young adults (mentees), between the ages of 15-25, make a successful transition into adulthood from adolescence.

Mentoring Program

The relationship is determined and developed by the mentor and mentee; both sign a contract of commitment. The volunteer mentor and mentee determine dates, times and schedules for “Meet Ups.”

Volunteer mentors participate in developing youth related workshops for personal and career development.

Volunteer peer mentors are older young adults from the same generation as their mentees who have achieved various levels of success.  Youth helping youth provides a great benefit to the mentoring relationship.

Workshops and projects are developed for mentees to give back to older adults especially in the field of technology.

Mentors and Mentees are required to honor the SUBOT Code:
Show Up and Be On Time
