Home LIFE
Home LIFE programs provide attractive and affordable housing to individuals who experience severe mental illness, physical disability, substance abuse, addiction and homelessness.
The Home LIFE programs consist of the Bergen Street Residence, Community House and the Muhlenberg Residence.
These Brooklyn-based, supportive Single Room Occupancy facilities provide safe, attractive and affordable housing to individuals who experience severe mental illness, physical disability, substance abuse, addiction and homelessness. All referrals for housing in the Lutheran Social Services of New York’s Home LIFE programs are made via direct referral from New York City’s Department of Homeless Services.
The residences provide comprehensive support services, which are provided within a therapeutic and non-judgmental atmosphere and are based on a client-centered approach. The staff also address the socialization and practical needs of the residents while striving to promote an independent lifestyle whereby these individuals may ultimately progress beyond the need for supportive housing.
Services
Provision of services includes money management, securing entitlements and insurance benefits, development of vocational skills and obtaining employment, relapse prevention and sobriety support and making referrals and assisting with utilization of day treatment programs and other psychiatric and medical institutions.
Contribution Opportunities
The funding needed for maintaining the residence locations is great. Financial support will provide resources to help keep the facilities in good and safe condition.
